A Carol Stream man was denied bail today in a slaying last year in the Bronzeville neighborhood of Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Judge Adam D. Bourgeois Jr. ordered that Maurice Jackson, 27, of the 100 block of Meadow Lane, remain in Cook County Jail until his next court date on Monday. Jackson is charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of Demetrius Madden, 30.

Prosecutors said Jackson approached Madden, of the 1300 block of West 73rd Street in Chicago, about 6 p.m. on Nov. 8 while Madden was sitting in a car in the 700 block of East 43rd Street.

Assistant State's Attorney Sara Grgurovic said Jackson fatally shot Madden in the head with a Glock 9 mm weapon, then tossed the gun into a nearby alley.

Grgurovic said two witnesses saw the killing and identified Jackson as the shooter, adding that a third witness saw Jackson dispose of a gun in the alley. She also said Jackson confessed to his involvement in the shooting.

Public defender Arthur Willis said Jackson is a married father of two who works as a janitor at the King Center in Chicago.
